Essays on Photography and the Creative Life from the editor of LensWork.
Letting Go of the Camera edition by Brooks Jensen Arts Photography eBooks
This is a modern classic. Jensen is one of the most thoughtful exponents of photography, through his (on-line and printed) journal LensWork, his advocacy of the portfolio as a sensible way to display work, his teaching, and his own photography. This collection of essays communicates well-grounded pessimism about a sustainable career as an artist-photographer, but contains many useful ideas about how to pursue the art in a sensible and thoughtful way.Product details

Letting Go of the Camera edition by Brooks Jensen Arts Photography eBooks Reviews
This is a charming, thought provoking collection of essays on the why and what of photography instead of the usual "how."
A good read. Recommended for anyone in photography. Interesting points of view from someone who is a long time practitioner of the craft.
His is one of the few photography books I will re-read several times. I found the the discussions very engaging and helpful. Coming late in life to serious photography, he helped me understand what it is create photography art.
I will be recommending this book to me photography friends.
I love this book and read it in small doses to savor some of its ideas...the author injects a great sense of humor into his writing coupled with some of the hard lessons that most artists seem to run into. Gives a wonderful perspective to our sport!!
I enjoyed this immensely, because Jensen delves into the "art-making" aspect of photography, It's not at all about technique or equipment. It's about the nature of art, and how photographers fit into it. The chapters are almost a series of meditations.
Some good articles and advice in this book. Aside from looking at images, it's always good to not only read about photography. This alternative approach allows one to think about ideas and concepts of photographic projects you might become interested in.
One of finest books on photography I have ever read authored by someone who has been there and done it all with a camera. If you feel stuck in you photographic pursuits please consider reading this book. It has helped me get it moving again through motivating comments about how to overcome all we, as photographers, struggle with particularly if it is your passion.
